Henkel Loctite: The World Market Leaders in Adhesives, Sealants and Surface Treatments
Success Through Innovation.
Loctite Corporation began in a Trinity College basement laboratory when - in 1953 -entrepreneurial chemistry professor Dr. Vernon Krieble developed a cure inhibition system for a unique bonding resin that hardened in the absence of air (an anaerobic sealant). July 1956 saw Loctite® go public and the promise of solving the age-old problem of loose nuts and bolts in machines and appliances – a problem accepted as unsolvable – led to an incredible flow of inquiries. In the 1960s, the cyanoacrylate (“Superglue”), was developed under the Loctite® brand. Throughout its history, Loctite® has continued to create markets by discovering opportunities where no one knew they existed.
In 1997, the Loctite® brand was acquired by Henkel and today; it remains a primary brand, renowned for the excellence of its adhesives and sealants. Loctite® products have become vital components in many of the machines and products that are at the core of everyday life.

Sponsorship
Henkel has a long tradition of sponsorship in motor sport through the Loctite® and Teroson® brands; the benefit of such partnerships is the opportunity to see products designed for everyday use, being tested on the world’s toughest events.
Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: Loctite® is a future series partner in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup; the logo first appeared on two cars entered by Tomlimit Motorsport at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps in September 2008. The event is staged alongside the FIA Formula One World Championship – and therefore enjoys a considerable following. Professional teams and drivers compete in identical high-performance Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racecars under matching technical conditions with engines, transmissions and axles exposed to extreme forces. Hence, race vehicle construction and maintenance depend crucially on Loctite brand products such as Loctite® 243 and Loctite® 2701. Teams benefit from the technology, and customers get a chance to see the products being put to the test in real life extreme conditions. During 2009, races are planned in Bahrain, Spain, Monaco, UK, France, Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Italy and Belgium.
FIA Formula One World Championship: Henkel was an Official Supplier to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One racing team, from 1995 until the 2008 season. Many of the F1 teams still rely on products from the Loctite® portfolio to provide solutions for major assemblies.
The Dakar Rally: The Dakar Rally is the latest in a long line of top-level competitive motor sport events in which Henkel has been involved. The tough 16-day tour crosses 6 countries, and the mechanical components in the cars, bikes and trucks that compete are put under enormous stresses. As Official Partner and Supplier, Henkel has supported the competing teams with a wide range of Loctite® and Teroson® branded products. Over the years, strong relations have been developed; based on mutual trust and understanding, competent service and the high-quality adhesives and sealants available for fast and efficient repairs – which have helped many competitors across the finish line and proved they were more than a match for the world’s most demanding conditions.
